It’s actually our front yard. Many people in the area regard deer as pests, but I’m still fascinated by them, and thrilled we can provide a bit of food and shade. We have a few little stands of trees in the front, and, every once in a while, I walk out and startle a few deer that have taken shelter underneath them. I may change my feelings once I get more serious about vegetable gardening, though.
Deer are unfortunately a little picky and they don’t take suggestions about what they should eat. However, I’ve been thinking of just changing my perspective instead. Rather than confessing to having an overgrown yard, I’ve decided to adopt the position that we are, instead, CREATING/MAINTAINING HABITAT for the wild creatures hereabouts. Not sure how my neighbors will feel about this stance, though.

Is that a deer in your backyard?! You live in paradise! Those are the prettiest weeds I’ve ever seen.

Just let the deer do it. Or, if they’re unreliable, get a goat. I’d like a goat, but it might eat my grass.
